Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 4, 2026
Mood Lens ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.
1. Data We Collect
Mood Lens collects and stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Mood entries: Your daily mood selections (emoji, slider value, mood level), optional text notes, and timestamps.
- User profile: Your first name, AI style preference, onboarding answers (life context, goals, triggers), and reminder preferences.
- Conversation history: Messages exchanged with the AI companion, stored locally.
- App preferences: Theme mode, notification settings, and onboarding completion status.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your email address, phone number, or any account credentials.
- We do not require user registration or sign-in.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties.
- We do not store your data on any server or cloud service controlled by us.
3. AI Interactions (Google Gemini)
When you interact with the AI companion, your mood data and conversation context are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate personalized responses. This data is processed by Google according to their Gemini API Terms of Service.
- We send: mood level, slider value, optional notes, recent mood history, and your AI style preference.
- We do not send: your name, device identifiers, or any data beyond what's needed for the AI response.
- If you provide your own API key (BYOK), requests are made directly using your key.
4. Analytics (Firebase)
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand app usage and improve stability:
- Analytics events: Screen views, feature usage counts (e.g., "mood logged", "calendar viewed"), and engagement metrics. We track mood level categories (e.g., "GOOD") but never your notes, slider values, or AI conversation content.
- Crash reports: Technical crash data (stack traces, device model, OS version) to fix bugs. No personal content is included.
- Firebase may collect device identifiers as described in Firebase's Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage & Security
- All mood data, conversation history, and preferences are stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database (Room).
- API keys (if provided) are stored using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences.
- No data is backed up to external servers by the app.
- If you uninstall the app, all local data is permanently deleted.
6. Notifications
Mood Lens may send local notifications to remind you to log your mood. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and do not involve any external service. You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings or your device settings.
7. Children's Privacy
Mood Lens is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
8. Your Rights
- Access: All your data is stored locally and visible within the app.
- Deletion: You can delete all data by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data from your device settings.
- Export: You can export your mood data as JSON from the Settings screen.
- Opt-out of analytics: You can disable analytics collection in your device's Google settings.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
